Dr Arian Arjomandi Rad
Dr. Arian Arjomandi Rad is a distinguished figure in the realm of healthcare leadership and research, currently serving as the Research Director at The Healthcare Leadership Academy.
With a robust academic background, he commenced his journey as an Academic Foundation Doctor at the prestigious University of Oxford, where he laid the groundwork for his illustrious career. Holding dual distinctions of MBBS and BSc (Hons) from Imperial College London, Dr. Arjomandi Rad further honed his expertise at Maastricht University, where he is pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree. Currently he is an incoming national trainee in Cardio-Thoracic Surgery.
His scholarly pursuits have yielded over 70 publications, including seminal works, showcasing his profound insights and contributions to the field. Beyond his professional endeavours, Dr. Arjomandi Rad epitomises altruism through his commitment to volunteering, embodying a holistic approach to healthcare and leadership.
Dr Robert Vardanyan
As an incoming neurosurgical clinical fellow at John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, his professional life has been dedicated to excelling in academic neurosciences and surgical research. He has achieved this through over 40 publications and more than 50 presentations at both national and international levels, all while developing into a safe, competent, and devoted neurosurgical doctor, both clinically and operatively.
His academic contributions are further demonstrated by his co-authorship of various educational resources. In the realm of medical education, he founded initiatives such as Operation Medical School, which provides accessible resources for aspiring medical students. He also co-directed the HLA Research Masterclass Course, aimed at fostering research skills among students worldwide.
Additionally, his involvement with the International Chair in Bioethics and his Diploma in the Philosophy of Medicine have allowed him to explore and contribute to the application of bioethics in everyday clinical practice. This focus is particularly relevant given the current developments in artificial intelligence-enabled healthcare.
Dr Johann Malawana
Johann, with over 15 years of leadership experience, founded Medics Academy and The Healthcare Leadership Academy (HLA) to address systemic issues in healthcare and support early-career development.
He is renowned for his role as the former chair of the Junior Doctors Committee of the British Medical Association and has held significant positions such as President of Barts and The London Students’ Association and University of London Medical Students’ Officer.
Johann played a pivotal role in negotiating improvements for junior doctors after the Modernising Medical Careers (MMC) crisis, including the Inter Deanery Transfer System. His leadership and advocacy led to appointments on the boards of the General Medical Council and the Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board, representing medical students and junior doctors.
