Infections in Pregnancy

This course covers the effect that viral and bacterial infections can have on pregnancy. The infections covered include:

  • CMV
  • Hepatitis B
  • Group B Streptococcus
  • Toxoplasmosis
  • Varicella Zoster
  • Rubella
  • Herpes Simplex
  • HIV
  • Syphilis
  • Parvovirus

Foundation Programme Curriculum

This course covers the following Foundation Programme Curriculum areas:

11. Obtains history, performs clinical examination, formulates differential diagnosis and management plan

12. Requests relevant investigations and acts upon results

16. Demonstrates understanding of the principles of health promotion and illness prevention

About the Presenter and Supervisor

Dr Zahra Ameen is a Consultant Gynaecologist with over 10 years’ clinical experience working in the hospital & health care industry. Dr Ameen has a special interest in ambulatory gynaecology, acute gynaecology and early pregnancy scanning.  She also has expertise in ultrasound scanning, management of general gynaecological conditions, management of miscarriage and outpatient hysteroscopy, obstetrics and medical education.

Dr Ameen graduated from Guys, Kings and St Thomas' Medical School with a BSc in Pharmacology, and Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). She consults at the Women Wellness Centre and the Surrey and Sussex NHS Trust.

Dr. Zahra Ameen
Passionate about global health, Dr Ameen is an advocate for women's health education and rights, having worked with and consulted for the WHO in Geneva.
